U.S. CENTRAL COMMAND AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY – The 386th Air Expeditionary Wing conducted a change of command ceremony, October 6, 2025, as U.S. Air Force Col. Nathan Aysta assumed command from Col. Douglas Stouffer.
The long-standing tradition highlighted the Air Force’s commitment to continuity of leadership and trust in its commanders. Lt. Gen. Derek France, Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) commander, presided over the event and commended Stouffer for his dedicated service and steady leadership throughout his tenure.
During Stouffer’s time in command, the wing provided essential support to combat operations, reinforcing regional security and delivering critical airlift and mobility capabilities across the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility, earning the wing a Gallant Unit Citation.
Reflecting on his tour, Stouffer expressed appreciation for the tireless work of the Airmen under his charge that resulted in the achievement of the GUC.
“I’m going to start by thanking [my Airmen],” said Stouffer. “I’ve been to multiple deployments – 34 years of service – and I don’t have a [GUC] on the record. That is from what you accomplished. I’m so very proud of you.”
A highlight of the event was the symbolic passing of the wing guidon signifying the official transfer of command authority and responsibility. This act reinforces the Air Force’s dedication to readiness and mission assurance through its leaders.
Following the guidon passing, Aysta, a 1999 graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, addressed the wing. With a background flying the F-16 and serving in the active duty component before the Air National Guard, he spoke to his priorities as incoming commander.
“My number one priority is to support [my Airmen],” said Aysta. “I am humbled and honored to be your commander. I pledge to serve with integrity, compassion and unwavering dedication to our mission.”
With this transition, the 386th AEW continues its mission to deliver airpower, theater airlift and agile combat support across the region, ready to tackle future challenges under Aysta’s leadership.
