In May 2025, the Air Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems Program Office (PMA-264) issued the first competitive delivery orders for AN/SSQ-53 Sonobuoys—expendable sensors used to detect and track submarines—under their multiple award contract.
By making multiple awards, the team supported a resilient industrial base healthy and achieved a 55% price reduction from the initial price for one contractor. These savings allowed the Navy to procure an additional 100,000 sonobuoys, increasing anti-submarine warfare readiness capacity for the fleet.
The team also accelerated the procurement process, issuing 16 orders within 22 days of receiving proposals.
