An Icarus Apollo R stratospheric fixed wing aircraft makes its landing approach at Orote Airfield on Naval Station Guam, June 24, 2026, as part of Exercise Valiant Shield 2026. Operating within the Pacific Multi-Domain Training and Experimentation Capability experimentation environment, the 3d Multi-Domain Effects Battalion, 3d Multi-Domain Task Force, evaluated the autonomous recovery phase of the uncrewed stratospheric platform to test developing technologies and provide critical feedback to inform the acquisition process for the future force.
This technology demonstration was conducted in support of Valiant Shield 2026. Exercises like Valiant Shield allow Pacific Command Joint Forces the opportunity to integrate forces from all branches of service and with our allies to conduct precise, lethal, and overwhelming multi-axis, multi-domain effects that demonstrate the strength and versatility of the joint force and our commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific.
