    Green paint identifies scanning locations on a pier cap along the Kaw Bridge catwalk where light detection and ranging (lidar) technology was used for bearing replacement work at Kaw Dam near Kaw City, Oklahoma, Aug. 20, 2026.

    Lidar technology enabled crews to locate reinforcing steel within the concrete. The scanning was completed before bearing replacement work began. All 32 original rocker bearings are being replaced with new elastomeric bearings. Elastomeric bearings have a longer life expectancy than the original rocker bearings and contain no moving metal parts, making them virtually maintenance-free, more resistant to corrosion and better able to absorb shocks and vibrations.
