    A newly installed elastomeric bearing supports a bridge span at Kaw Dam near Kaw City, Oklahoma, Aug. 20, 2026.

    The bearing, secured with a new anchor bolt, replaces an original rocker bearing as part of a project to replace all 32 bridge bearings. Elastomeric bearings have a longer life expectancy than the original rocker bearings and contain no moving metal parts, making them virtually maintenance-free, more resistant to corrosion and better able to absorb shocks and vibrations.
