    An original rocker bearing and deteriorated grout pad beneath the bridge over Kaw Dam show the extent of degradation that led to the bearing replacement project near Kaw City, Oklahoma, Aug. 20, 2026.

    All 32 original rocker bearings are being replaced with new elastomeric bearings. Elastomeric bearings have a longer life expectancy than the original rocker bearings and contain no moving metal parts, making them virtually maintenance-free, more resistant to corrosion and better able to absorb shocks and vibrations.
