    KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Aug. 6, 2026) Dickson Kirui, a research scientist, assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio’s Directed Energy Health Effects directorate, presented research titled, “Distinctive Muscular Injury Following Near-Infrared High-Energy Laser (NIR-HEL) Exposure” in the Directed Energy Medical Research for Future Fight Breakout Session held during the 2026 Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. Presenters shared their latest research findings and challenges on topics including combat casualty care, military operational medicine, clinical and rehabilitative medicine, medical simulation and information sciences, military infectious diseases, and the radiation health effects, Aug. 3-6. NAMRU San Antonio, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
