    KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2026) Brooke McGill, an intern assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio’s Directed Energy Health Effects directorate, presented research titled, “Thinking in 3D: Electromagnetic Radiation Exposure in a Novel 3D in vitro Model” during the 2026 Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) held at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center, Aug. 3-6. Presenters shared their latest research findings and challenges on topics including combat casualty care, military operational medicine, clinical and rehabilitative medicine, medical simulation and information sciences, military infectious diseases, and the radiation health effects. McGill, a senior attending the University of Texas at San Antonio, is participating in the Office of Naval Research’s Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP). NREIP gives academically talented college students, graduating seniors, and graduate students pursuing STEM careers the opportunity to learn about Naval research and technology while receiving first-class mentoring by top scientists and engineers. NAMRU San Antonio, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
