    KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Aug. 6, 2026) Darrin Frye (left), chief science director, Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, accepted the 3rd Place Poster Award from Terry Rauch, acting deputy assistant, Secretary of Defense, Health Affairs, Health Readiness Policy and Oversite, at the Young Investigator and Poster Awards Ceremony during the 2026 Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) held at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center. The award-winning poster titled, “The Ross M1 Sterilization Impact on the Emergency Reuse of Disposable Dental Instruments and 3D Printing Materials” was presented by research scientists Tarea Burton and Andres Martinez Murillo assigned to NAMRU San Antonio’s Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine directorate. The MHSRS provided presenters with the opportunity to share their latest research findings and challenges on topics including combat casualty care, military operational medicine, clinical and rehabilitative medicine, medical simulation and information sciences, military infectious diseases, and the radiation health effects, Aug. 3-6. NAMRU San Antonio, part of Navy Medicine Research & Development, conducts gap-driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research in support of Navy, Marine Corps and joint U.S. warfighter health readiness and lethality while engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
