Chad Macheel, a physician assistant with the Minnesota National Guard’s 55th Civil Support Team, takes a team member's vital signs prior to a port security exercise in Duluth, Minnesota, June 10, 2026. Establishing baseline vitals is a critical safety procedure that ensures all personnel are medically prepared for the mission and allows medical staff to monitor for any physiological changes during and after the exercise. The 55th CST partnered with the U.S. Coast Guard and other local and federal agencies to test their collective response to a simulated radiological threat.
