The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District is working to construct a new navigation lock on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to keep 318 miles of upper reaches of the Tennessee River open for commerce. When constructed, the new navigation lock will be 600-feet long and 110-feet wide and will handle nine barges per lockage, an increase in efficiency of 800%. It will reduce commercial transit times by 80%. (USACE Photo by Leon Roberts)
