U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District project managers lead Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Lee Forsgren over the upstream miter gates April 30, 2026, at Chickamauga Lock on the Tennessee River in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He visited the project to receive a project update for the Chickamauga Lock Replacement Project. The active navigation lock is 360-feet long and 60-feet wide and can only accommodate one barge. When constructed, the new navigation lock will be 600-feet long and 110-feet wide and will handle nine barges per lockage, an increase in efficiency of 800%. It will reduce commercial transit times by 80%. (USACE Photo by Leon Roberts)
