JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — U.S. Navy Capt. Ryan McCrillis, commander of Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, discusses how the inside machine shop supports fleet readiness with National Defense University guests at the shipyard, April 10, 2026. The visit provided joint warfighters and allied leaders attending NDU firsthand insight into the industrial capabilities required to sustain globally integrated naval operations.
The Inside Machine Shop (Shop 31) houses the non-nuclear machinists that manufacture and refurbish parts and components using an array of machinery for vessels.
PHNSY & IMF’s mission is to keep the Navy’s fleet “Fit to Fight" by repairing, maintaining, and modernizing the Navy's fast-attack submarines and surface ships. Strategically located in the heart of the Pacific, it is the most comprehensive fleet repair and maintenance facility between the U.S. West Coast and the Far East. (U.S. Navy photo by Camey Streff)
