260312-N-AT886-1119 PENSACOLA, Fla. (March 12, 2026) Lt. Ashley Chapman, Registered Nurse, provides instruction on how to gain Intraosseous (IO) access to Hospitalman Karina Saldivar, both assigned Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Pensacola during an Advanced Life Saving (ALS) class at Naval Hospital Pensacola on March 12, 2026. IO access is a vital technique taught in ALS which is used when traditional intravenous access is not possible, which can often be the case in a combat or emergency situation. The training allows Sailors the ability to quickly and effectively administer fluids and medications directly into the bone marrow, which can be lifesaving for a patient in shock, ensuring operational and medical readiness anywhere-anytime.
