Jim Beasley Jr., a civilian Heritage Flight pilot and founding member of the Air Force Heritage Flight program, prepares to taxi in a P-51 Mustang during the 2026 Heritage Flight Training and Certification Course at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Ariz., Feb. 28, 2026. Beasley flew the first dissimilar formation with the West Coast F-15 Eagle demonstration team at Shaw Air Force Base in 1996 and has since flown hundreds of Heritage Flights across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. In 2006, he was named Civilian Heritage Flight Pilot of the Year and continues to showcase historic aviation through formation flying in vintage aircraft alongside modern Air Force fighters. The Heritage Flight Training and Certification Course pairs current and historic aircraft in formation, honoring the legacy of past and present military aviators. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt.
