U.S. Army and World War II veteran Ceo Bauer attends an International D-Day Remembrance Ceremony at the Utah Beach American Memorial, June 6, 2025, Sainte-Marie-du-Mont, Normandy, France. Ceo Bauer was born May 21, 1923, in Carson City, Michigan. Drafted in January 1943, he served in the U.S. Army, 95th Infantry Division, Company I, 377th Infantry Regiment. Deployed to Europe in July 1944, his unit liberated Metz, France, on November 22, 1944, as the first to cross the Moselle River. Severely wounded by shrapnel, he recovered over 17 months and was discharged in 1945. Some of his awards include the Purple Heart and the French Legion of Honor. (U.S. Army photo by Sgt.
