U.S. Navy Adm. Christopher Grady, Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, fist-bumps U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Daniel B. Demastus, a platoon sergeant with 3rd Platoon, Company K, 3rd Battalion, 4th Marines, during Exercise ARCTIC EDGE 2025 at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Aug. 18, 2025. Demastus, who has served in a billet normally held by a staff sergeant infantry unit leader, was instrumental in developing effective training products and leading joint operations, including a recent amphibious raid with the U.S. Coast Guard’s Port Security Unit 311 that showcased rapid, coordinated execution. AE25 is a NORAD and U.S. Northern Command-led homeland defense exercise designed to improve readiness, demonstrate capabilities and enhance joint and allied force interoperability in the Arctic.
