Russell A. Dierking is now being returned during a meeting with staff members of the Astoria-based Obon Society at the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, Oregon, on March 7, 2025. The Obon Society’s mission is to facilitate the return of captured WWII flags to Japanese descendants of the soldiers who carried them off to war as send-off gifts.
