Captured swamp eels are stored in the livewell of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission's electrofishing boat. The invasive swamp eel continues to spread throughout the state of Florida. The fish is unique because it can breathe without water, allowing it to survive in the cold and during a drought. The U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife have been partnering to find a way to manage this invasive species and to determine the possible harm it may have to the ecosystem.
