U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, multi-media specialist Brigida. I. Sanchez holds a captured swamp eel. The invasive swamp eel continues to spread throughout the state of Florida. The fish is unique because it can breathe without water, allowing it to survive in the cold and during a drought. The U.S. Geological Survey, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife have been partnering to find a way to manage this invasive species and to determine the possible harm it may have to the ecosystem.
