Collection of biological samples is a routine part of the autopsy process at the U.S. Army Regional Mortuary for Europe and Africa, located on Landstuhl Kaserne, Germany. U.S. Army Reserve Brig. Gen. Karen Monday-Gresham, the deputy commanding general for the 21st Theater Sustainment Command and the commanding general for the 7th Mission Support Command visit the facility with her command sergeant major, Command Sgt. Maj. Shahpour Eskandary, Friday, Jul. 26, 2024.
The Landstuhl based facility supports the largest are of responsibility of any Army mortuary and has the largest case load outside of Dover Air Force Base, the primary mortuary for the Department of Defense and serves as the template for all other Armed Forces Mortuaries. The Regional Mortuary for Europe and Africa supports three combatant commands: U.S. Army European Command, U.S. Army Africa Command, and U.S. Army Central Command.
