Navy and Africatown Forged by the Sea

    200201-N-JH293-1078
AFRICATOWN, Ala. (Feb. 1, 2020) A mural of the schooner Clotilda, the last know ship to bring African slaves to the U.S., in the small town of Africatown, Ala. In 2019, the Clotilda, which was thought to be lost or nonexistent, was discovered in the Mobile River. This recent discovery has brought with it the hope of revival to the town, which was founded by African captives of the Clotilda. Recently, Navy Recruiting Command and Navy Recruiting Orientation Unit Sailors have conducted community service and volunteer projects to help further revitalize the town.
