AFRICATOWN, Ala. (Jan. 31, 2020) A young Africatown resident attends an appreciation ceremony in honor of the U.S. Navy. During the ceremony, the Africatown natives expressed their belief that the town and Navy share a common bond since they are both forged by the sea. Recently, Navy Recruiting Command and Navy Recruiting Orientation Unit Sailors have conducted community service and volunteer projects to help revitalize the town with the discovery of the schooner Clotilda, the last known ship to bring African slaves to the United States.
