U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Christian Lee, embarker with Ground Combat Element, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, prepares to push to a range at Kangaroo Flats Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia, July 31, 2020. Lee is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
“I was born in Florida, but I was raised in Jamaica with by grandmother. She was a Seventh Day Adventist, so Friday afternoon to Saturday evening was God’s time. That’s where I learned what it means to be a man, and first got into running. You’d always see me doing laps. The secret is to pump harder on the curves. It’s the curves where you can really pick up speed. On the straight, all you need to do is sustain it. That way, you’re actually getting faster every turn. After a few laps, I’m pumping like a full sprint. I’m gone.”
During the week, MRF-D’s GCE and LCE came together to demonstrate their ability to operate in austere environments and hone their combined combat readiness. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Harrison Rakhshani)
