U.S. Marine Sgt. Brandon Sheppard, combat engineer with Ground Combat Element, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, prepares to conduct live-fire squad tactics training at the Battle Inoculation Range, Kangaroo Flats Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia, July 30, 2020. Sheppard is a native of Anaheim, Calif.
“I’m the engineer section leader with Weapons Platoon, India Company. I’m basically the platoon sergeant. I coordinate with the company to provide engineer capabilities, mobility, counter-mobility, and survivability to the grunts. That’s our official role. The down and dirty is we employ demolitions or fire rockets to take out bunkers, entrenched machinegun positions, or armored vehicles.”
During the week, MRF-D’s GCE and LCE came together to demonstrate their ability to operate in austere environments and hone their combined combat readiness. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Harrison Rakhshani)
