U.S. Marine Cpl. Anthony Miller, combat engineer with Ground Combat Element, Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, prepares to conduct live-fire squad tactics training at the Battle Inoculation Range, Kangaroo Flats Training Area, Northern Territory, Australia, July 30, 2020. Miller is a native of Needville, Texas.
“As fire team leader, my leadership is on a smaller scale. While my sergeant directs 13 Marines, I’m entrusted with three. Three’s plenty. It’s hard to keep their heads up when the goings tough. Even when they’re going internal, I wouldn’t trade being a team leader for GP (general populace) any day. In combat, we’re the most immediate responder to an IED threat. Along with the other team leaders, I advise the platoon commander on the best path forward, or whether we need to request outside support, such as EOD.”
During the week, MRF-D’s GCE and LCE came together to demonstrate their ability to operate in austere environments and hone their combined combat readiness. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Harrison Rakhshani)
