Kyle Taylor holds the first metal 3D-printed part, a stainless steel avionics panel L-bracket, to be used on a flying aircraft, this one for the B-1B Lancer. Taylor is a metal additive manufacturing subject matter expert in the Reverse Engineering and Critical Tooling Lab and said that the lab saved $22,000 in production costs by producing the part in-house.
