A laboratory professional wearing a white lab coat, safety goggles, and blue nitrile gloves holds up two containers for comparison. In her left hand is a large jar containing a dark brown/reddish liquid with a handwritten yellow label, and in her right hand is a small clear vial with a green cap containing a transparent liquid. The image appears to document a before-and-after or raw-versus-processed sample comparison.

Sharon Harris, an environmental protection specialist in the Environmental Lab, has worked in her area for 37 years. She is responsible for microwave digestion of hazardous and non-hazardous samples that come into the lab. Most samples she receives are aqueous, or water-based, and are either placed on a hot block or in a special microwave to break down samples to be further analyzed. (U.S. Air Force photo/Kelly White)
