Granite City’s Capt. Jeff Joyce meets with St. Louis District’s Mark Griffith. Griffith’s knowledge of Locks 27 will be invaluable to Joyce, providing him expert information about the facility and staying at the Captain’s side the entire exercise. The St. Louis District Corps of Engineers, coordinated with local fire departments and first responders to conduct an exercise in which a towboat inside the lock chamber had an emergency and required assistance. In addition to USACE, members of the Granite City and Madison fire departments and 376th Engineer Firefighter Detachment participated.
