Cpl. Manuel O. Jimenez from New Britain, Conn., will compete in the 2012 Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., April 30-May 5. Jimenez, 23, will compete in track and field and swimming. Jimenez is a combat-wounded above elbow amputee who was injured in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device blast. He also suffers from loss of hearing. He has participated in many marathons, triathlons and half marathons. He also recently participated in the Boston Marathon in April. Jimenez says his inspiration comes from his brother, who showed him that anything is attainable with a little hard work. This is his second time competing. He finds swimming most challenging but is driven to succeed. More than 200 wounded, ill or injured service members from the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Special Operations Command are scheduled to compete in the Paralympic-style competition.
