Cmdr. David Back, executive officer aboard littoral combat ship USS Independence cleans a valve on a fire fighting station during command-wide sweepers aboard the ship. All sailors aboard Independence, including the commanding officer, executive officer and command master chief, participate in sweepers in an effort to maintain cleanliness throughout the ship. Independence's Gold Crew and embarked Mine Countermeasure Squadron (MCM), Detachment 1, are underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego after successfully completing testing on the MCM mission package.
