Mineman 1st Class Jeremy Merry, from Ark City, Kan., assigned to Mine Countermeasures (MCM), Detachment 1, embarked aboard littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2) sweeps a stairwell during command-wide sweepers aboard the ship. All dailors aboard Independence, including the commanding officer, executive officer and command master chief, participate in sweepers in an effort to maintain cleanliness throughout the ship. Independence's Gold Crew and embarked MCM are underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego after successfully completing testing on the MCM mission package.
