Mineman 1st Class Daniel Gwilt, from Grand Ledge, Mich., assigned to Mine Countermeasures (MCM), Detachment 1, embarked aboard littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2) cleans the nozzle on a fire hose during command-wide sweepers in the engine room aboard the ship. All Independence sailors, including the commanding officer, executive officer and command master chief, participate in sweepers in an effort to maintain cleanliness throughout the ship. Independence's Gold Crew and embarked MCM are underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego after successfully completing testing on the MCM mission package.
