Chief Engineman Pascual Edjan, left, from the Philippines, and Culinary Specialist 2nd Class Jennifer Ulloa, from East Moline, Ill., both stationed aboard littoral combat ship USS Independence (LCS 2), clean a pipe during command-wide sweepers in main propulsion plant 1 aboard the ship. All Independence sailors, including the commanding officer, executive officer and command master chief, participate in sweepers in an effort to maintain cleanliness throughout the ship. Independence's Gold Crew and embarked Mine Countermeasure Squadron (MCM), Detachment 1, are underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego after successfully completing testing on the MCM mission package.
