Cmdr. Peter Kim, executive officer of littoral combat ship Pre-Commissioning Unit Coronado (LCS 4) sweeps a passageway during command-wide sweepers aboard USS Independence (LCS 2). Coronado sailors are embarked aboard Independence to familiarize themselves with the ship before Coronado is commissioned October 2013. All Sailors aboard Independence, including the commanding officer, executive officer and command master chief, participate in sweepers in an effort to maintain cleanliness throughout the ship. Independence's Gold Crew and embarked Mine Countermeasure Squadron (MCM), Detachment 1, are underway for the ship's maiden voyage to San Diego after successfully completing testing on the MCM mission package.
