Castaneda, a motor transport mechanic and assistant patrol leader with Golf Battery, 2nd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, marches with fellow Marines during the memorial service for Cpl. Conner T. Lowry here, March 10, 2012. Castaneda, a 20-year-old native of Gibbon, Neb., placed the rifle upside-down into the dirt using the bayonet to create a memorial shrine. Lowry died March 1, 2012, in Kajaki district, Afghanistan.
