Alec Metz, a social scientist with Combined Joint Task Force-1, sets the headspace and timing on a .50-caliber machine during the Task Force Maverick Spur Ride Feb. 21 at the clamshell. Metz was the only civilian to participate in the event. Although the day was long and rigorous, he and 25 other participants completed the spur ride and earned a set of golden combat spurs.
