U.S. Army Maj. Gamble Monney, the deputy division engineer for Combined Joint Task Force-1, tries to concentrate on his land navigation test as U.S. Army Master Sgt. James Skinner, the Task Force Maverick operations sergeant major, watches over his shoulder Feb. 21 at the clamshell on Bagram Air Field. The land navigation test was one of various tasks performed during the TF Maverick Spur Ride in which 26 candidates of different pay grades and branches of service endured the grueling event in order to earn their golden combat spurs.
