A vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated 50 meters from the main gate of Mosul Airfield, a multinational forces base in Mosul, Iraq, June 26. The explosion killed four Iraqis including a woman and a child, a Facilities Protective Services employee and the suicide bomber driving the vehicle, and wounded nine others. The vehicle carrying the explosives was reduced to rubble and the vehicle behind it, carrying an Iraqi civilian and a child, was destroyed. The vehicle was also loaded with 122mm rockets and a 60mm mortar that did not detonate in the explosion. The site was secured and explosive ordnance teams were sent in to dispose of the munitions. This was the first major terrorist attack in Mosul since June 24 when four car bombs exploded, killing more than 60 and wounding more than 200. (Photo by Spc. Blair Larson)
