JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (Oct. 25, 2018) – Lt. Cmdr. Kevin Bernstein, a sports medicine physician at Naval Branch Health Clinic Mayport, conducts a grocery shopping tour at Naval Air Station Jacksonville’s commissary on Oct. 25. The educational tour focused on healthy eating, functional foods, labels, and the potential dangers of energy drinks and supplements. Bernstein, a native of Deer Park, New York, says “Despite popular belief, there is no one secret or fad diet. I have tried them all in my own personal journey and struggles, with a personal weight loss of nearly 80 pounds since high school. Be cautious about the pitfalls when buying into the next best thing: stay consistent, be patient, maintain an active lifestyle, optimize sleep, and learn appropriate stress management techniques to ensure long-lasting success. Eating whole foods that are minimally processed, low or free of added sugars, and with a good balance of carbohydrates, lean protein, and healthy fat can provide significant benefits to overall health and performance, no matter your goals.” (U.S. Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville/Released).
