Fernandez, a native of Jacksonville, Illinois, is a radio operator with 1st Brigade, 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, III MEF. Teams composed of New Zealand Army intelligence analysts, engineers, and Marines with 5th ANGLICO functioned as opposing forces during Phantom Major, which tests the confidence and capability of upcoming infanty platoon commanders in the New Zealand Army.
