SAN ANTONIO – (June 6, 2018) Savanna Vereen of San Antonio, a future Sailor in the Navy Delayed Entry Program (DEP), volunteers at the San Antonio Food Bank during a DEP meeting sponsored by Navy Recruiting District (NRD) San Antonio. During the event, recruiters, along with more than 60 future Sailors and other volunteers, filled 575 bags of produce and sorted 19,447 pounds of food which will provide 15,558 meals for needy families. Vereen, a 2018 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School, will attend recruit training in Great Lakes, Mich. in September with follow-on training as an operations specialist. “I joined the Navy because I did not know what I wanted to do with my life,” said Vereen. “By joining the Navy, my horizons will be expanded and I will be able to experience many other things.” (U.S. Navy Photo by Burrell Parmer, Navy Recruiting District San Antonio Public Affairs/Released)
