Lance Cpl. Mechenzie Wood, an assault amphibious vehicle (AAV) crewmember with Alpha Company, 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, navigates an AAV-P7/A1 AAV during a deployment for training (DFT) exercise at Fort Stewart, Ga., May 23, 2018. Assault Amphibious Vehicles allow troops to move to an objective through water when passage on land is blocked. The DFT helps maintain proficiency in landing the surface assault element during amphibious operations to inland objectives with conducting mechanized operations and related combat support in operations ashore.
