Sgt. Ralph Hendress, supply non-commissioned officer, 983rd Engineer Battalion, demonstrates the splash method of filling knotted Army Combat Uniform trousers to the 336th Engineer Company on Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif., Aug. 6. To do this, you keep the waistband under water and use a cupped hand to push air into the trousers. This turns the trousers into a flotation device and allows the soldier to conserve energy in the water. The engineer soldiers are on Fort Hunter Liggett for their annual training in support of Castle Installation Related Construction.
