Sgt. Ralph Hendress, supply non-commissioned officer, 983rd Engineer Battalion, throws his knotted Army Combat Uniform over his head to trap air inside during drownproof classes on Fort Hunter Liggett, Calif., Aug. 6. This turns the trousers into a flotation device. This maneuver is an important part of the drown-proofing class as it can allow someone in the water a chance to conserve energy. The engineer soldiers are on Fort Hunter Liggett for their annual training in support of Castle Installation Related Construction.
