Staff Sgt. Brian Garr, Task Force 110 Liaison Officer for Andrew County from B Battery, 1/129th Field Artillery, Missouri Army National Guard calls in a description and the location of sand boils found near a levee south of Amazonia to the 1/129th Field Artillery tactical operations center located at the Maryville Armory. Sand boils occur when water under pressure wells up through a bed of sand. The water looks like it is "boiling" up from the bed of sand, hence the name. Sand boils can be a sign that a levee is weakening, depending where they are located in relation to the levee and other factors. These sand boils were determined not to be harmful to the levee at this time. The TF 110 LNOs will continue to monitor these boils along with other key sites as preparations for potential flooding continue in Andrew County.
