Missouri Army National Guardsmen from the 1438th and 1135th Engineer Companies helped the local population of Canton, Missouri to prevent the waters of the Mississippi River from overtaking their town. The engineers were working with civilians to build, transport, and place sandbags in an effort to re-enforce the levee to keep the Mississippi River from flooding the town.
