U.S. Navy SW1 Honer Villanueva, a steel worker with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 3, is a Philippine native now serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, and is conducting humanitarian civic assistiance activities in support of KAMANDAG in Casiguran, Aurora, Philippines, October 2017. “I was born on October 22, 1972, in Olongapo City, the home of Subic Bay. I lived in the Philippines for 27 years before moved to the States. When I got there I worked in a shipyard in San Diego for six months before I decided to join the U.S. Navy. It was my dream, because I grew up near the Navy base and saw that they had a good life. So I knew when I moved to the U.S. that I wanted to join the Navy. Since I’ve been in, this is my fourth time doing this kind of exercise. It feels great because I get to serve my original country and I’m serving my adopted country as well. So every time I deploy over here I feel so great, especially being able to serve the local community.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo illustration by Sgt. Matthew J. Bragg.
