U.S. Marine Sgt. Brent Serquina, a platoon sergeant with Bravo Company, 9th Engineering Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group, is a Philippine native now serving in the U.S. Armed Forces, and is conducting humanitarian civic assistiance activities in support of KAMANDAG in Casiguran, Aurora, Philippines, October 2017. “I was born on July 7, 1993, in San Nicolas, Pangasinan, Philippines. Life growing up was tough. I grew up on a farm like here in Casiguran for 16 years, where we grew our own rice and corn. My aunt, who was in the U.S., had petitioned for her family to be able to move there, and the paperwork took about 25 years to complete. I was able to go with my family, but I have two sisters and one brother who couldn’t go with us, and they are still living in the Philippines. When I got to the U.S., I joined the Marines because it’s an awesome organization, and their uniforms look sexy. I heard it was pretty tough as well, but it’s not that bad, and I like it a lot so far. Being back here in the Philippines is pretty awesome. It makes my heart content. I’m just happy to be close to home and giving back to the local communities. It’s humbling to see where I came from, and to see where I’m at now.” (U.S. Marine Corps photo illustration by Sgt. Matthew J. Bragg. This photo is a composite of approximately 30 images, which were stitched together to create an extremely shallow depth of field. This technique is most commonly known as the Brenizer method.)
