Capt. Darin Sweet waves to the crowd of nearly 20,000 as he is recognized at the NHL All-Star game in Raleigh, N.C., Jan. 30. Sweet received the Bronze Star with Valor and the Purple Heart in Afghanistan after sustaining injuries during a firefight and displaying great acts of heroism. Sweet was invited by the NHL to pre-game festivities, a meet-and-greet with the players in their locker room, and was given floor level seats to the game. Sweet is a member of the U.S. Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations Command (Airborne) based at Fort Bragg, N.C.
